We ended up talking with him for about ninety minutes, about basketball, life in general, religion, and all sorts of things.

At one point I asked, `Coach, don't you have anything better to do than talk to a bunch of high school coaches-especially when you have to play such an important game today?' He just smiled and said, `I can't think of anything I'd rather do."

Coach was more interested in other people than himself.He made them feel important.

That’s treating people with dignity.

Whether it's a busboy at a restaurant, a bagger at a supermarket, an elderly neighbor or a homeless person we all have that same opportunity every day.

Treat all people with dignity and respect-Part#1

This phrase represents a key instruction that John Wooden received from his father and later became a cornerstone of his own philosophy and a basic bit of advice that he insisted his basketball teams follow.

Dignity is defined in the dictionary as: the quality or state of being worthy, honored, or esteemed.

Coach went out of his way to make everybody he met feel this way. In the book How to Be Like Coach Wooden: Life Lessons from Basketball's Greatest Leader by Pat Williams Mike Tschirret, former high school coach, athletic director and principal in Florida, recounted an encounter he had with Coach Wooden:

In 1974, I made a trip to the Final Four in Greensboro, North Carolina. I was eating breakfast with some other high school coaches on the Saturday of the semifinals, in which UCLA would be playing.

All of a sudden, John Wooden walked over to their table and asked, "Do you mind if an old man joins you?"

Yes, Success is Everything-Part #2

It is not just a destination that is set for everybody to try and go for. It is like Zig Ziglar said, “improving in every area of your life to see if you can't say with satisfaction at the end of the day, week, month and year, ‘I have made excellent progress this year, for myself, for my family, for my business, my career and my health.’” I think that kind of success everybody recognizes is legitimate and something we should all strive for.

Interesting phrase in the Bible that says strive for perfection—not that we can ever reach it. But it is in the striving, to be a little bit better today than yesterday, in our speech, our language, our health, everything we can possibility think of.

So yes, in my opinion, Success Is Everything!

Yes, Success is Everything-Part #1

Someone once said to me that success isn't everything and I think I know what they really meant. I believe they really meant that money isn't everything, and I certainly agree with that. But I do believe that success IS everything.

First, you need to succeed to survive. We must take the seasons and learn how to use them with the seed, the soil and the rain of opportunity to learn how to sustain ourselves and our family.

But then second is to then succeed to flourish in every part of your life. Good question to ask mature people: “If you could do better, should you?” And I think almost everybody would answer the question in the affirmative. If you could improve your health, shouldn't you do that? If you can learn more, shouldn't you do that? If you could earn more and share more, shouldn't you do that? If you can improve your relationships and spirituality, shouldn't you do that? And I think that is what success is really all about.

How does a Warrior of faith begin his prayers? The Prayer of Jabez is a good example.

Oh, that You would bless me indeed, And enlarge my territory, That Your hand would be with me, And that You would keep me from evil. --1 Chronicles 4:9-10

Everything required to please God is found in His word. Are you willing to choose a stand under the authority of God? Are you willing to place your faith in God and learn what He would have you do with your purpose? Start living a purposeful life by placing God first. God is a patient God. He asks you to do the same and have faith in Him. Be patient, be faithful, and great things will happen for you.

PLACE GOD FIRST

If they obey and serve Him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in contentment. -Job 36:11

1. Accept that you are God's ultimate creation. Say to yourself, "I am God's ultimate creation!"

2. Because you are in God's image and likeness, you have magnificence within you. Are you using your own magnificence and allowing it to shine? Is there anything holding you back from letting your own magnificence shine through? If so, list what it is.

3. Ask God to show you how you are able to use your magnificent God-given talents. List three of the most powerful talents you have.

Warriors have faith. Faith is a state of mind. Have faith in God. Have faith in yourself and faith in the infinite. Faith is the "eternalelixier" that gives life, power, and action to the impulse of thought.

Faith is the basis of all miracles and all mysteries. Faith is the element that transforms the ordinary vibration of thought, created by the finite mind of man, into the spiritual equivalent. Place GOD First-Part #11

God's magnificence is limited by the limits you set. He has all of the resources, power and willingness to give. Matthew 7:7 reads: "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."

God desires to have you be blessed. To bless in the biblical sense means to ask for or to impart supernatural favor. We are asking for the magnificent goodness that God has the power to know about you. When you seek God's blessing as the ultimate value in life, you are accepting His will, power, and purposes for you. All other needs become secondary to what you really desire.

God is choosing to work in us, through us, and around us, for His glory. Be open to His blessings, and your life will become marked by miracles.

Place God First-Part #10

Say this to yourself and embrace it: "With the assistance of God, I am and have value. Great value! Magnificent value!" Say this to yourself again. Do you see the intrinsic value God has placed in you and upon your life?

"The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn that shines brighter and brighter until the full day." -Proverbs 4:18

You are able to receive God's blessings. By having faith in God and acting boldly, unseen forces will come to your aid. Every act of faith and bravery increases your courage and capacity. His desire is for you to have faith and to be a willing and humbling servant.

Place God's will first, and be prepared for the amazing to occur for you. Simply have faith in Him. Always remember Hebrews 11:6, which says, "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is a giver of those who seek Him."

If you want to be a leader who attracts quality people, the key is to become a person of quality yourself. Leadership is the ability to attract someone to the gifts, skills, and opportunities you offer as an owner, as a manager, as a parent. I call leadership the great challenge of life. What’s important in leadership is refining your skills. All great leaders keep working on themselves until they become effective. Here are some specifics:

Learn to be strong but not rude. It is an extra step you must take to become a powerful, capable leader with a wide range of reach. Some people mistake rudeness for strength. It’s not even a good substitute.

Learn to be kind but not weak. We must not mistake kindness for weakness. Kindness isn’t weak. Kindness is a certain type of strength. We must be kind enough to tell somebody the truth. We must be kind enough and considerate enough to lay it on the line. We must be kind enough to tell it like it is and not deal in delusion.

Learn to be bold but not a bully. It takes boldness to win the day. To build your influence, you’ve got to walk in front of your group. You’ve got to be willing to take the first arrow, tackle the first problem, discover the first sign of trouble.

Place GOD First-Part #9

I invite you to always ask God to help you when making decisions. God chooses you to be blessed and have abundance. Since you are God’s ultimate creation, give Him the trust and faith for your life. God has placed magnificent value inside of you. God created you and He also made you a powerful creator. He made you to be a Warrior for Him. 

Genesis 1:26-28 reads: 

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 

God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 

God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Are YOU Placing GOD First?-Part #8

We are all God’s creations. He has our best interest and chooses to have us truly shine and live with our true magnificence. All you have to do is put God first. Embrace Him, allow Him into your life, and everything else will fall into place.

Matthew 6:33 reads:

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Let us all do as the above scripture says. Trust God and have God show and lead the way. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do and everywhere you go. He will keep you on track when you allow Him to.

Warriors understand that they are spiritual beings. When you begin to believe your true identity is a spiritual being and you are so much more than a body, your entire life begins to change. Seeing the essence of spirit and light in another person allows you to let go of your own bodily focus. You are able to recognize the same essence in yourself. This profound transformation unites you in oneness with God, who created you.

God built value into you when He created you. You are His ultimate creation. This is so powerful. Read this to yourself a few times: “I am God’s ultimate creation.” Wow! How does that resonate within you?

Place GOD First!-Part #5

Looking back, I realize that I made some poor choices and decisions, decisions I would choose differently now that I allow God to guide my life. I have had many life challenges and struggles. Through it all, God has continued to accept me and love me regardless of the decisions I have made in my life. I learned that my plans will always be superseded by His plans.

I share this because if I had placed God first, I would have made decisions that would have honored both God and myself. I would have created better circumstances for myself. I was living a life of “Let’s make a deal, theology.” I would periodically make deals with God. All I was doing was actually manipulating what I wanted and what I wanted from God.

Place GOD First-Part #6

God knows what is best for me and what lies ahead for me. He even told me this in Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, to give you a hope and a future.” Once I started to embrace this, I learned to be happy and have acceptance of the magnificent human being I am. I also began to see how God taught me what worked for me. He opened my eyes to seeing things differently, which gave me the ability to choose differently with His love. He has done the same for you.

When we place God first, all other things fall into their proper place.

Begin with yourself. Realize you are a powerful, spiritual, and magnificent being, created in God’s image. You are able to choose and create with love. Choose your thoughts and feelings, and have them reflect the positive and magnificent you. Choose all your actions with love.

If we are involved in a project, how hard should we work at it? How much time should we put in?

Our philosophy about activity and our attitude about hard work will affect the quality of our lives. What we decide about the rightful ratio of labor to rest will establish a certain work ethic. That work ethic–our attitude about the amount of labor we are willing to commit to future fortune–will determine how substantial or how meager that fortune turns out to be.

Enterprise is always better than ease. Every time we choose to do less than we could, this error in judgment has an effect on our self-confidence. Place GOD First-Part #4

To know God is to know thyself.

Now think about this for a moment. God created you in His own image. God bestowed upon you unique qualities for you to use in your life and to assist others. Because you are in God’s image and likeness, you have magnificence within you. Are you using your own magnificence and allowing it to shine? What is holding you back from letting your own magnificence shine through?

As I shared earlier, Coach Dale Brown always encouraged me to “Let God take care of the rest.” When I started to tell my friends and associates that I was going to write a book, several people shared with me the following: “When you place God first, everything else falls into place.”

Place God First-Part #3

To know God is to know thyself.

We were designed to put God and His purposes first because God created all of us to have a relationship with Him. Genesis 1:27 tells us that “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” God loves you with an everlasting love and has a wonderful purpose for your life right now and for all of eternity. In John 10:10, Jesus said, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness. It is far greater than your family, your career, or even your wildest dreams and ambitions. When you choose to know why you were placed on this planet, you must begin with God. You were born by His purpose and for His purpose.

To know God is to know thyself.

God is calling you to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Do you sense there is something bigger out in the world for you to accomplish? God is calling you to trust Him and choose big steps of faith to create a significant difference in the world. The only way to find the ultimate purpose of your life is by responding to God’s call to enter into a personal relationship with Him.

You are called to a personal relationship with God who created you. It is in God that you are able to discover your origin, your identity, your meaning, your purpose, your significance, and your destiny. Every other path leads to a dead end. Place God First-Part #1

To know God is to know thyself.

I had to reach the depths of despair and contemplate suicide before I was able to understand the true power of God. Because of the grace of God, I am able to share with you what I have learned. God grabbed hold of me and refocused me in finding and living my life’s purpose. Had I originally put God first, the roadblocks and exit ramps I encountered would have been different. I have learned that by placing God first in my life, I am able to accept my magnificence and live a more fulfilling and purposeful life.

It is in God that the Warrior is able to discover his or her magnificent playfulness, power, and purpose. Warriors follow a higher calling—a spiritual calling—from God. They have faith and demonstrate it by the way they live their purpose for God. Warriors understand that they are called for something much greater than themselves.

Character is built by how you respond to what happens in your life. Whether it’s winning every game or losing every game. Getting rich or dealing with hard times. You build character out of certain qualities that you must create and diligently nurture within yourself. Just like you would plant and water a seed or gather wood and build a campfire. You’ve got to look for those things in your heart and in your gut. You’ve got to chisel away in order to find them. Just like chiseling away the rock in order to create the sculpture that has previously existed only in your imagination.

But do you want to know the really amazing thing about character? If you are sincerely committed to making yourself into the person you want to be, you’ll not only create those qualities, but you’ll continually strengthen them. And you will recreate them in abundance even as you are drawing on them every day of your life. Just like the burning bush in the biblical book of Exodus, the bush burned but the flames did not consume it. Character sustains itself and nurtures itself even as it is being put to work, tested, and challenged. And once character is formed, it will serve as a solid, lasting foundation upon which to build the life you desire.

3.) What do you desire to change for the better in the world? List three things you would like to change in the world.
