Live In The Now-Part #2

Having acceptance simply means embracing what is. Acknowledging the “what” may include yourself, your spouse, significant other, job, house, life, health, and prosperity, or a set of circumstances. With acceptance, embrace peace. It is in this peace where your magnificence will happen.

When you accept something, you let go of the resistance, the fight, or the struggle. What is left is peace. It is this resistance to “what is” that keeps you in a locked set of behaviors. When you resist circumstances in your life, your energy is tied up in the struggle. As soon as you just accept the circumstances, the energy is free to move about. You are able to dance with “what is” in a different way, often creating the very movement you are looking for.

Many years ago, one of my goals was to become very wealthy. I figured that would be a positive goal to achieve, one that would give me a lot more freedom and happiness. When I gazed into the future, I saw the potential for wealth and freedom. I thought that to reach that goal, I would have to endure a definite absence of enjoying the present.

Then one day, one of my friends and coaches Greg Klein said, “You are doing a magnificent job in doing and accomplishing tasks.” Right then my ego felt great. I was thinking to myself, “Thanks for noticing.” Then he handed me a bat so I could swing it, and I did. The bat was swung to my head and hit me like a ton of bricks. He said, “Do you mind if I share an observation with you? You are doing such a great job of doing, you seem to be living and enjoying the future.” Right then was a major “aha” moment for me. He was right, and I knew exactly what he meant. I was so caught up in doing, I was choosing to live my life later.

The irony of this is that I have always enjoyed just having fun. When I was focused upon a task or responsibility or a goal I had set, I would become so focused on the “future” accomplishment that I would become very direct, rigid, and, in many cases, uptight or stressed. All because I was doing. Constant go, go, go and do, do, do. I was on autopilot of just doing. Then I learned from a statement from one of my dear friends, Janet Kelly, that constant do, do, do creates “doodoo.” Over time it starts to smell. Wow. Are you able to relate with all of your doing? Are you creating “doo-doo” for yourself?

Living happens in the present moment.
